We all know the concept of capsule wardrobe, but have you considered applying the same principles to your shoe wardrobe?
Instead of having to find the space for lots of different pairs, purchase a good pair from each of the following categories and you’ll always have something to wear with any outfit. It’s better for the environment since less waste is being created, and better for your bank balance too.
If you spend a little more initially, you won’t need to keep replacing them each season.
Sneakers
Sneakers are the perfect daytime shoe; super casual and comfortable. Ideal for leading an active lifestyle or just for enjoying fitness fashion, you won’t get sore feet if you do a lot of walking or standing and can be styled with pretty much any casual outfit.
If you want to go luxe and invest in a designer sneaker that will stand the test of time, something like a pair of white leather oversized sneakers by Alexander Mcqueen could work well.
Gucci’s standout bee logo’d sneakers could also be a great option for adding that flash of luxury to your casual outfit. If you know you’ll be wearing your sneakers hard and really wearing them out, more affordable sportswear brands such as Nike and Adidas could be your best bet since they’re still good quality.
Leather Boots
A good pair of leather boots will last you for years, they’re ideal from early autumn right through to mid spring so you’ll get plenty of wear from them.
Choose a style based on your overall aesthetic and go with what will match most of your other outfits. It could be a pair of Dr Martens, or a pair of chelsea boots.
If you want something that will go with everything, a generic pair of high quality, black leather boots will stand the test of time. If you maintain them by regularly re-heeling them when they start to wear you won’t need to replace them every year.
Wellington Boots
During the winter when the weather is really rainy and muddy, a pair of wellies are essential. Maybe you have a muddy walk to work or perhaps you have a dog that you take out on walks on fields- either way, they’re a useful staple to have.
If you want to invest a little more, Hunter wellies are a popular choice, otherwise you can pick up a huge range of different styles from most high street shops these days once their autumn/ winter collection goes on display.
Comfortable Heels
If you don’t have the need or desire to invest in lots of pairs of high heeled shoes, go with one good pair. If you choose well, they’ll get you through every occasion from weddings to funerals to job interviews.
Always go with a height you can comfortably walk in, and if you choose a neutral colour they’ll go with a variety of different outfits.
Sandals
Sandals are ideal for over the summer months. Avoid cheap flip flops which will rub your feet and end up in landfill after two months of wear.
Some quality sandals like a pair of Birkenstock’s will look stylish and last you summer after summer.
The thick sole and wide leather straps make them really comfortable to wear, and will work well with all of your summer skirts and dresses.
