90's 90s Fitness Fashion

Fitness and fashion aren’t often two words that go together. But sportswear has been a big part of fashion for a long time. We’ve always worn replica uniforms and kits to support our favorite sports teams, and sports kits are often one of the first places we see new color combinations.

In the last few years, as more of us have turned to exercise to get healthy and boost our mental health, athleisure has really taken the world of fashion by storm.

Activewear is now available everywhere from high-street stores, and sports shops, right up to designer outlets and cute boutiques. We can also see trends from athleisure start to bleed into day-to-day wear, with yoga pants now a common high-street look. We’re even starting to experiment with teaming yoga pants with things like chunky boots, trendy crops, and even more dressed-up outfits.

This all means that what we wear to the gym, or out on a run, isn’t just for sports anymore. We don’t get changed to go to the gym, we wear our workout clothes all morning until we get there.

What you wear to work out is more important than ever and looking good at the gym is suddenly something that more of us are thinking about. Here’s a look at some of the hottest fitness fashion trends of summer 2022.

Leggings

When it comes to stepping out of the gym and onto the high-street, nothing has been more successful than sports leggings. Gone are baggy track pants, replaced with running tights, yoga leggings, and other skin-tight options. These can offer great support, be cool and sweat wicking and highlight your curves.

Cropped Tops

Cropped sports tops are very fashionable. V neck options look great, but you might prefer a higher neckline if you need a little more support. For cooler days, long-sleeved cropped tops look great with high-waisted leggings for more coverage without losing style.

Sports Skirts

Sports skirts are so popular right now. They look cute, keep you cool in the summer, and many options have concealed shorts to give you extra protection and prevent chafing. Take your time looking at the Best Workout Clothes for Women to Shop for the best options for you.

Matching Fitness Kit

Matching leggings, crops, or shorts with a matching crop top or sports bra is the activewear equivalent of double denim. It’s a bold choice that makes a statement and looks fantastic. Opt for bright colors or bold patterns for an eye-catching look.

Cycling Shorts

Cycling shorts are another 90s workout clothes item on trend in and out of the gym this year. In the 90s, Princess Diana ignited the popularity of wearing biker shorts for workouts and casual wear. Workout shorts look great, shape your thighs and bottom, and team well with either a loose-fit tee to keep you cool or a skin-tight crop to show off your curves. Like biker shorts, high-waisted leggings offer tummy control and make a fashion statement in the gym or as casual fashion around town.

Tie-Dye and Ombre

When it comes to color, blocks will always look great in the gym, but if you fancy something a bit more exciting, tie-dye prints and subtle ombre colors are very fashionable.

The good news is fitness and fashion becoming more of a team means that there are far more options when it comes to looking and feeling your best while you are pushing your body. Shop around to find styles to suit you, but remember, when it comes to clothes to work out in, support and comfort should always have priority.

Windbreakers

This lightweight jacket first became popular in the 1970s. In the 1990s, these colorful, useful outerwear items surged in popularity again with color block styles arranged in geometric shapes. A windbreaker is designed to fend off wind chill and light rain.

It is a lightweight jacket typically made from synthetic material. Today, celebrities are once again sporting windbreakers bringing them back into fashion as workout wear and fashion statements.
