How to Install a Glueless Wig

how to install a glueless wig

When it comes to hair, women worldwide are very cautious and vigilant in maintaining and styling their hair. However, nothing in this world is eternal, and hair is no exception. Multiple factors like age, hormones, medications, stress, etc., cause hair to thin out and, in some extreme cases, reach alopecia. Does this leave the women’s dream of achieving beauty to a dead end?

Thankfully, that is not the case. Welcome to the innovative world of glueless wigs. Any hairstyle is possible; you can look effortlessly beautiful without trying hard.

Whether you are going to a wedding or a party, a glueless wig can change your look completely in no time. Not sure how to install a glueless wig? We have you covered!

What Is a Glueless Wig

First thing first, What is a glueless wig? Traditionally, wigs have always been applied using adhesives like glue or tape for a secure fit. A glueless wig is a type of wig that does not require the use of adhesive or glue to stay securely in place. Instead, it uses adjustable straps, combs, or elastic bands to ensure a snug fit on the wearer's head. These wigs are a versatile option for those seeking a secure fit without the hassle of adhesives.

Step 1 Choose Your Wig

There are several types of wigs you can pick from: full-lace, front or partial-lace, or no-lace wig.

A full-lace wig is the easiest to install and part, it is designated to provide a natural-looking hairline. However, it will require special care because it can be expensive and can be damaged easily.

A frontal or partial lace wig will only give you a natural hairline on your forehead. It is easier to take care of and less expensive.

A non-lace glueless wig doesn’t give a nice or realistic look and doesn’t naturally blend into the hairline like other wig types.

You can also choose your wig from synthetic fibers, animal hair, or human hair.

With the various types and materials available, you can select a wig that meets all different needs.

Step 2 Prep Your Hair

To ensure a natural and seamless look, it’s essential to have a sleek and plain scalp without uneven places. Comb your hair well and tie it into a bun with hair pins to hide your natural hair under the wig. Shorter hair is easier to prep compared to longer thicker hair. You can use a stretchy cloth headband to push your combed and pinned hair back.

Step 3 Getting Dolled Up in a Wig Cap

The nylon or net wig cap not only provides breathability to your scalp but also mimics the color of your scalp and acts as a savior by preventing your glue from slipping off your scalp, providing a plain and smooth base for your wig, and ensuring the wig sets well in your scalp. To apply the wig cap, stretch it and cover it over your combed and pinned hair, then line it up with your headline.

Secure it with bobby pins or other clips around the edges, and ensure all of your hair is underneath the wig cap.

Step 4 Prep the Wig

Before applying the wig onto your scalp, it’s advisable to pull out all of your hair from the wig. If the wig’s hair is long, you can tie it into a ponytail for a smooth transition. For the bob wig hair, clip back the hair closest to the edge through bobby pins work on applying it seamlessly and let it settle well. We will style it later.

Step 5 Install the Wig

Hold the wig from the center, raise it over your head, and place it on your scalp. Start pressing evenly on every angle for a smooth placement. Remember to keep your head straight. Bending over might leave uneven spots on your scalp.

Pro tip: if it’s your first time applying a glueless wig, do not leave your house right away, allow the wig enough time to adjust so it can steal. It takes some time and practice to apply the wig perfectly.

Step 6 Secure the Wig

You can secure the wigs by using bobby pins, q-tips, or a fine-toothed comb to press down the front edge of the wig. Once settled, wait 10-15 minutes, then repeat the same process for the back or side edges. This step though not 100% necessary, will assist in smoothing the wig placement.

Step 7 Style and complement the wig

Once you feel the wig is placed and sets evenly on your scalp, you can now style it into different hairstyles. You can braid, curl, or straighten your wig just like normal hair. Pro tip: Since hair dye and hair straighteners are not made for synthetic fibers, you might want to avoid using them when your wigs are made of synthetic hair. My recommendation is always that less is more, use less products, chemicals, or accessories for your wig to prolong your wig lifespan.

End Note

Glueless wigs are safe, easy to place and comfortable to take off. However, if you do want to wear your wig for an extended period of time, you can use some freeze spray as an additional safeguard.

The best part is that it’s easily removed using water or a cleanser. Just dab some onto a cotton swab, and you’re good to go. Have you ever tried placing a glueless wig? How was your experience? Share your insightful memory in the comments below.
