Fashion Silhouettes Timeline

 1920-21

By Pauline Weston Thomas for Fashion-Era.com

Fashion Silhouettes Timeline Drawings 1920 to 1921

I have studied costume drawings and fashion plates of the fashion history era between 1920 and 1921.  Then I have drawn out these simple line drawings and finally enhanced aspects such as fur trims, and patterns with computer software. The drawings on this page show some of the costume history silhouette body shape outlines between 1920-21.  Fashion as an industry re-established itself after the First World war years during this period.  Each thumbnail enlarges to produce an A4 print and is suitable for colouring in and producing timeline scenes, collage foundation guides or guidelines for amateur dramatics.

Like many costume enthusiasts, on occasions I need a basic costume history line image of a specific year.  These fashion images should give you a clear understanding of the changing lines and variety of silhouettes.  As a result you can date a picture within a few years of costume history. On this page look out for the waist beginning to drop more toward the hip skirts increasing to lengths they were before the Great War.  Clothes are less structured in general terms and often have a very modern feel compared to the Edwardian era.

My original detailed text information on the 1920s can be found in the main section here at Flapper Fashion.  You may also be interested in the link to the Stylish Thirties.
